As youth mental health challenges remain a pressing concern, pediatricians are uniquely positioned to foster emotional check-ins and guide families toward meaningful connections, according to Elizabeth Reichert, PhD, pediatric and adolescent psychologist at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and codirector of the Stanford Parenting Center.
Reichert emphasized the impact of small, intentional moments—such as device-free time spent cooking together or walking the dog—in building warmth, connection, and emotional resilience between parents and children.
